9/11 Day of Service Food Drive

Each year on September 11, volunteers across the nation unite in a National Day of Service, honoring the sacrifices made by first responders, military members, their families, and everyday community heroes. This tradition—known as the 9/11 Day of Service—reminds us that even in the face of tragedy, we can come together to make a positive impact. This year, United Food Bank will continue this tradition by hosting a day of service food drive on Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Volunteer Center (358 E. Javelina Ave). The recommended food items for donation include cereals, oatmeal, chilis, soup, stews, canned tuna or chicken, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, canned or dried milk, canned tomato products, rice, beans, and pasta. Those unable to drop off donations in person can still support the cause by making a monetary donation at United Food Bank’s website. Just $1 can provide up to five meals for Arizonans impacted by food insecurity. Since 1983, United Food Bank has been dedicated to providing hunger relief to people in the East Valley and eastern Arizona. As a member of Feeding America, the local food bank collects, acquires, stores, and distributes food to communities in five counties, serving over 100,000 Arizonans each month. These efforts result in the distribution of more than 22.7 million pounds of food each year, equating to an average of 52,000 meals a day. United Food Bank teams up with over 120 partner agencies in Arizona, many of whom help serve veterans including Resurrection Street Ministry.
