Locally owned Waterkolours Fine Art Gallery will host an open house Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 6412 Summer Gale Drive, Memphis, TN 38134. The open house will feature international artist Charly Palmer. Palmer will host an artist talk and sign copies of his new book The New Brownies’ Book: A Love Letter to Black Families, which recently won the 2024 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction. Event Schedule: Open House: 11 a.m. Book Signing: 12 p.m.–2 p.m. Artist Talk with Charly Palmer: 4 p.m. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Waterkolours Fine Art Gallery was founded by Danny Jenkins and his wife, Allison, who have been art connoisseurs for more than 30 years. A gallery and online platform, Waterkolours’ collection is curated with works by contemporary Black artists. Waterkolours offers a variety of art services including curator services, art commissioning, framing, shipping, consulting, installation, national transport and a 4,000-quare-foot elegant event space. As one of Waterkolours’ featured artists, Charly Palmer has worked in the arts industry for more than 30 years and also works as a graphic designer and illustrator. In 2020, Palmer illustrated the cover art for John Legend's Grammy Award-winning album Bigger Love. He also illustrated the July 2020 cover of Time magazine for the "America Must Change" issue. Palmer was recently commissioned by the United States Postal Services to create the 47th edition of the Black Heritage stamp series honoring the late Judge Constance Baker Motley. Palmer’s work is in private and public collections, which include JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, Atlanta Life Insurance, McDonald’s Corporation, Miller Brewing Company, the Coca-Cola Company and Vanderbilt University.
