Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin

As part of its Catalyst for Change Series, the National Civil Rights Museum will host a powerful screening of “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin,” a groundbreaking documentary that sheds light on one of the most influential—yet often overlooked—figures in the American civil rights movement. Through rare archival footage and poignant interviews, the film invites us to reflect on what it means to stand at the intersection of multiple identities and fight for liberation in all its forms. Following the screening, we will host a community conversation to reflect on Rustin’s legacy and discuss how his work continues to inform today’s movements for racial equity and LGBTQ+ rights. · Walter Naegle, surviving partner of Rustin and Executive Director of the Bayard Rustin Fund · Bennett Singer, award-winning filmmaker, writer, and co-director of “Brother Outsider” · Anaré V. Holmes, writer, firefighter/EMT, and equity leader · Tim’m West, Executive Director of the LGTBQ Institute of National Center for Civil and Human Rights · Moderated by Kayla Gore, the Founder and Executive Director of My Sistah’s House
