In an inspiring collaboration, Republic Services teamed up with local green organizations to construct two outdoor classrooms at the Carpenter Art Garden, fostering hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in Binghampton schools.
The project is funded by a $180,000 National Neighborhood Promise® grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. In addition to enriching environmental education opportunities in partnership with Clean Memphis, the initiative directs funds towards enhancing the Binghampton Development Company's (BDC) Business Hub, empowering individuals through a focused recycling-oriented job training program.
Aligned with the BDC's mission to uplift communities facing economic adversity, the BDC Business Hub stands as a beacon of opportunity, providing training opportunities in the recovery and repurposing of hard-to-recycle materials like mattresses and tires.
In concert with these efforts is Clean Memphis, a pioneering nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Memphis and Shelby County. Through initiatives such as Project Green Fork and K-12 environmental science education, Clean Memphis sparks change through grassroots community involvement and local government collaboration.
