Pianist Suzzette Ortiz proudly hosts “Jazz in the Wood,” First Thursdays Neighborhood Concerts at the Collingswood Community Center, 30 Collings Ave, Collingswood, NJ 08108.

Please join us on November 3, 2022 as we welcome guitarist Brian Betz with special guest vibraphonist, Behn Gillece to Collingswood. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $15, Students $5 and children under 12 years old get in for free! MASKS ARE REQUIRED.

Guitarist-educator Brian Betz, who resides in the Philadelphia Metro Area, joins forces with vibraphonist-composer Behn Gillece in their return to the Exit Zero Jazz Festival.

With six recordings as a leader to his credit on the Dreambox Media Label, including 2001’s Running, 2003’s Without A Doubt and 2005’s Dichotomy, and three more done in collaboration with baritone sax burner Denis Diblasio, Betz is also currently on the faculty at Rowan University and Cumberland County College jazz ensemble, general music history, world music, and jazz history. He also teaches privately at the Friends School in Mullica Hill, New Jersey.

Behn Gillece is a powerful new voice in jazz who was named a Downbeat Rising Star for 2018. He has released four albums on the Posy-Tone label, the most recent being 2021’s Still Doing Our Thing.

The vibraphonist has also appeared as a sideman on recordings by trombonist Michael Dease, saxophonist Walt Weiskopf, singer Melody Gardot, Ensemble Novo and the all-star ensemble Out to Dinner. Gillece is also a member of the faculty at Rowan University and New Jersey City University, where he teaches vibraphone, jazz ensemble, music theory, and online courses.

Jazz Bridge, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to assisting Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis, sponsors these neighborhood concerts throughout the region to keep the sound of Philadelphia alive.
