Skai Blue Media and Octo Design Group will be partnering to host origami classes for kids on each Saturday of September (as well as October 2nd) where children can make birds and other origami creatures. Classes are free, but a donation of $1 per bird is suggested. All proceeds will be donated directly to the National Wildlife Federation, which has been assisting animals in the Gulf Coast who have been effected by the oil spill. On October 10th at 4pm, as part of Design Philadelphia week, all birds will be displayed on the facade of our offices at 803 S. Fourth Street, where a documentary made by children from Root Branch Kids showing the effects of the spills will be displayed. This is a unique event as it showcases kids doing something for a cause. With the economy slowing and many families feeling the pinch, children have become more aware of and invested in giving back to the community. Local schools, community members and Root Branch Kids, a program giving middle schoolers the opportunity to produce their own film, are coming together to createe the origami birds and highlight the significance the BP oil spill has had on our environment.
