Curated in collaboration with Lina Haelin Hwang —who currently serves as the head of planning at both the Korean Cultural Center New York and the Korean American New Artists (KANA)—this exhibition explores the complex and delicate nuances of the emotion "love" through sculpture, painting, and installation.
Under the theme Love Me Anyway, the exhibition delves into the longing for unconditional love and the pure yet clumsy desires that stem from it. Song’s fantastical creatures, known as “wild babies”—monster-like characters born from the artist’s imagination—take center stage in this show.
Curator Lina Haelin Hwang commented, “Through Song’s work, I hope viewers can ask themselves, ‘Could I love myself just as I am, even if I appear monstrous?’ I encourage visitors to dwell, even briefly, in this unfamiliar yet earnest little world. Within it, we might encounter someone’s truly sincere face.”
Beki Song holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and an MFA from Parsons School of Design in New York. She continues to engage in exhibitions and various art projects primarily in New York. She was also recognized as an invited artist after receiving a special prize in the prestigious Joogang Painting Exhibition in Korea.
