Fiber artist Sherry Shine encapsulates true cultural richness and master technique in her latest collection of vibrant, eye-catching hand painted quilts. Though Shine possessed an exceptional artistic ability at a young age, it wasn't until she was introduced to a long arm quilter and invited to attend a lecture on the dyeing and manipulating of fabrics that she really understand what she was destined to be doing. Her creativity and curiosity were ignited and her passion for art quilts was formed. Her process is simple – upon deciding on her subject matter, often something that reflects her special connection to the human form and portraits, Shine sketches out her vision on a segment of natural cotton and, using materials such as acrylics, charcoal, oil pastels, beads and appliqué, she createes a “story” that is rich in detail, color, texture, and history. On First Friday, October 3rd, from 5-8pm, Vivant Art Collection will host an evening reception for the public to view the art quilts of well known artist, Sherry Shine, in conjunction with a hand selected collection of quilts supplied by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Participants will enjoy an exciting evening with the opportunity to experience the creative and unconventional manner in which one woman expresses her artistic self. For additional information please contact Rakia Reynolds at 215.805.3536 or [email protected]. Vivant Art Collection is located at 60 N 2nd St. Philadelphia, PA 19106 in the heart of Old City's art gallery district.
