Verona Area Community Theater presents "The Red Flags"

VACT presents the World Premiere Production of The Red Flags, February 8-11 & 15-17, 2024 Forbidden Fireworks Explode in The Red Flags, a Love Story Where Danger Dances with Desire Prepare to be captivated by a love story unlike any other. Verona Area Community Theater (VACT) proudly presents "The Red Flags," a thrilling exploration of the volatile intersection of passion and peril. This world premiere production is being presented as part of the American Association of Community Theatre’s (AACT) NewPlayFest 2024! AACT NewPlayFest is an initiative by AACT to address the critical need for new, high-quality plays for community theater audiences around the globe. Theaters across the country applied to be a producing theater and more than 300 playwrights submitted scripts! Six theaters and six scripts were selected for full productions and VACT was thrilled to be selected to be a Producing Theater. Happily married couple Philip and Chloe want nothing more than for their friends and family to be as well-coupled as they are. Chloe wants to find a match for her commitment-shy best friend, Gabrielle, and Philip for his brother, Ric, despite the fact that Ric has left Philip with a family legacy so problematic that Philip changed his last name to escape it. When Gabrielle meets the enigmatic Ric in a “meet cute” that doesn’t go according to plan, sparks fly and Gabrielle is drawn to Ric’s charismatic intensity and alluring sense of danger. Gabrielle knows Ric is bad for her, a walking red flag, a hurricane waiting to wreak havoc. Yet, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the dangerous allure he exudes. The Red Flags delves into the murky depths of human desire, questioning the sanity of love in the face of danger and fear. "The Red Flags" is not your typical love story. This never before seen play written by Catherine Castellani, and directed by Allen Ebert, is both a thriller and a dark comedy. It's a psychological rollercoaster that challenges what we think we know about love, attraction, and the lengths we go to for what we believe is love. This AACT NewPlayFest world premiere production is made possible in part by a grant from the Jack K. Ayre and Frank Ayre Lee Theatre Foundation, and is sponsored by Dramatic Publishing Company. DPC publishes AACT NewPlayFest winning plays in anthologies and licenses future productions of the winning scripts. Performances of “The Red Flags” will be February 8, 9, 15 & 16 at 7:30pm and February 10 & 17 at 2:00pm, and will perform at the VACT building, 103 Lincoln St. in Verona.
