Cave of the Mounds Opens New Trail “Brigham Prairie Walk” Visitors to Cave of the Mounds will have a new way to explore the wonders of Wisconsin this summer with the opening of the Brigham Prairie Walk, an interpretive natural trail that connects the stories of geology, conservation, agriculture, wildlife, and more across the historic Cave of the Mounds property. The Brigham Prairie Walk is one of three hiking trails on the property. This new trail invites guests to experience the landscape above ground while discovering how it is connected to the cave below. Featuring interpretive signs, scenic views, and restored prairie habitat, the Brigham Prairie Walk expands the Cave of the Mounds experience beyond the underground tour. The trail features eight interpretive signs covering a wide range of topics, including solar energy, native prairie restoration, wildlife, caves and sinkholes, glaciation, groundwater, and the history of one of Wisconsin's Oldest Operating farms. One of the trail's highlights is a restored native prairie that has been meticulously cultivated on the property for more than a decade. Beginning on former agricultural land, the restoration effort transformed fields once planted in corn and soybeans into a thriving habitat for native grasses and wildflowers. Today, the prairie supports pollinators, birds, dragonflies, and other wildlife.
