For more than a half century, Jordi Savall has established himself as one of the most engaging musical personalities of his generation, in performances that marry meticulous research with virtuosic musicianship. A favorite of BEMF audiences since appearing on our very first concert series in 1989, he returns to Boston alongside his legendary ensemble Hespèrion XXI to bring to life the “new music” that took Europe by storm at the start of the Baroque period, featuring selections by Cavalieri, Frescobaldi, Falconieri, Kapsberger, and others.
Hespèrion XXI brings ancient and Baroque music to life under the direction of early-music legend Jordi Savall. In immensely entertaining programs that combine passion and creativity with world-class scholarship, they make timeless music utterly captivating for 21st-century audiences. Experience the inventiveness of the early Baroque era in works that span the late-16th century to the mid-17th century, including those by Frescobaldi, Kapsberger, de’ Cavalieri, Falconiero, and more.

Join us for this fascinating exploration of the Baroque era in music composed from the late-sixteenth to early-seventeenth centuries, including works by Frescobaldi, Scheidt, Vincenzo Ruffo (ca.1508–1587), Giovanni Girolamo Kapsberger (ca.1580–1651), Tarquino Merula (1595–1665) and others.
Jordi Savall is an exceptional figure in today’s music world. His career as a concert performer, teacher, researcher and creator of new musical and cultural projects, makes him one of the principal architects of the current revaluation of historical music.
