A Birthday Concert to Celebrate Morten Lauridsen at 80
The program includes selections from Mid-Winter Songs (with poetry by Robert Graves), Madrigali, Chansons Des Roses, Lux Aeterna, Nocturnes and Prayer (Dana Giola’s Elegy for his son).
The Donald Brinegar Singers and JPL Chorus is a combined community choral ensemble that meets in Pasadena directed by Donald Brinegar.
Conductor Donald Brinegar is Professor Emeritus of Music at Pasadena City College. He is also director of Choruses for the Pasadena Symphony and POPS. He is an adjunct professor at Cal State Los Angeles Masters Program in Choral conducting. Brinegar has published five books on Choral Music.
National Medal of Arts recipient Morten Lauridsen has spent his lifetime listening in deep silence to the 'inner song', bringing forth choral works of radiant beauty for the world to hear and sing.
Donald Brinegar and Morten Lauridsen have worked together over the years.
The Donald Brinegar Singers performed the premier of "Nocturnes" during the 2005 ACDA National Conference in Los Angeles, California.
The song “Intercession in Late October” from Mid-Winter Songs is dedicated to Donald Brinegar.
