Did you know Cinco de Mayo honors the Mexican army’s victory against the French army in the Battle of Puebla? This historic day is celebrated all around Los Angeles! Join us as we explore the rich history of Puebla and celebrate the spirit of Cinco de Mayo right here in our city! Enjoy live music, art, as well as garden and culinary workshops. Food and drinks will be available for sale. ENTERTAINERS Mariachi Lindas Mexicanas Mariachi Lindas Mexicanas is an inspiring all-female mariachi group passionate about celebrating their musical heritage and empowering women in the industry. Mariachi Lindas Mexicanas honors tradition while inspiring future generations of women to embrace their voices and stories. DJ CURATOR Chris Gutiérrez has been curating sonic soundscapes since the early 1980s, engaging audiences through immersive and nostalgic cinema-inspired sound experiences. WORKSHOPS Learn about the rich history of the state of Puebla, where the Battle of Puebla took place in 1862! ¡Viva las Flores!: Tortilla Press Printmaking Flowers are in full bloom throughout the State of Puebla! The town of Atlixco, known as the city of flowers, cultivates blooms year-round! Learn more about the flowers of Puebla by making your own floral print. Explore how to blend the use of a tortilla press, a traditional Mexican culinary tool, with printmaking to create textured, one-of-a kind impressions on paper. This workshop is facilitated by Ni Santas, a women of color art collective. ¡Viva Puebla!: Tenango Inspired Art The State of Puebla is a large region that is home to many indigenous communities, including the Otomí. The Otomí are known for creating colorful embroidered textiles called tenangos. Learn about this unique artform while making your own tenango-inspired artwork. ¡Viva el Chile Poblano! Seed Planting Did you know that Poblano peppers are central to some of Puebla’s signature culinary dishes? Learn about the Chile Poblano and plant your own Poblano seeds to care for at home! This workshop is facilitated by Urban Gardener and traditional cook, Marlene Aguilar. Fresh Chamoy and L.A. Style Fruit Cup Celebrate Los Angeles and the farmworkers movement by building an L.A. styled fruit cup with freshly made chamoy! It's an iconic city snack, perfect for everyone to enjoy!
