Mass in honor of Saint Oscar Romero concelebrated by close friend
The public is invited to the Mass in English to honor St. Óscar Arnulfo Romero, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. The Mass commemorating the 44th anniversary of his death will be celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez and visiting Cardinal Emeritus of El Salvador Gregorio Rosa Chávez. The cardinal was a close friend and collaborator of the saint and is the first and only cardinal in the Central American country. The cardinal will be visiting Los Angeles in pilgrimage to several parishes of the Archdiocese of L.A. St. Romero was assassinated while celebrating Mass on March 24, 1980, when he was the Archbishop of San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, which was going through a civil war at the time.
