Southern California's Largest Living History Event! Step back in time with us to the Civil War!
See history come to life as Huntington Beach Central Park is transformed. Hosted by the Huntington Beach Historical Society, this free event brings the 1860s to life with immersive reenactments, historical programs, and engaging activities for all ages.
Hundreds of living historians from across the U.S. will portray soldiers, civilians, and leaders, offering visitors a vivid glimpse into the past. Highlights include two daily battles with real cannons and horses (Saturday at 1:30 PM and 4 PM; Sunday at 11 AM and 2 PM), weapons demonstrations, and programs on topics such as the US Navy in the Civil War, African American service, Native American perspectives, and Civil War logistics. Visitors will be able to listen to President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, hear from the famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass, and meet General Grant as he draws up his battle plans.
The event also features music, food, and historic vendors. The event is located in HB Central Park East, behind the library, on Gothard between Slater and Talbert. Parking is available at the HB Central Library or paid parking at the HB Sports Center.
Civil War Days honors Huntington Beach’s long-standing tradition of historical education and community education. More than a century ago Huntington Beach used to regularly host meetings of the Grand Army of the Republic, the fraternal organization of Union Civil War veterans.
Don’t miss this opportunity to witness history firsthand—bring the whole family for a memorable journey through time. More information, schedule, and educational resources for parents and teachers available on HBHistory.org/civilwar
