Visiting artist Sasha Golden will give a talk about the intersection of vintage fashion and modern sustainability practices.
Please join us in welcoming visiting artist Sasha Golden, a historic fashion seamstress and conservationist.
From the artist:
There has long been a sub-culture which favors vintage fashion styles and another currently growing culture which is leaning towards more sustainable and eco-friendly fashion practices. The natural cross-over between these is Extant Garments or “true vintage”.
Clothing used to be an investment, built with a mentality towards quality that would last generations. Unlike the fast-fashion of today which has been created, in all aspects, on the manufacturing principle of “planned obsolescence.” Even if a historic garment is too frail to wear, out-of-fashion, or the wrong size, it still has a lot to teach us about how we can improve our present mentality towards fashion and the current industry.
Hour long lecture with time to ask questions and explore the garments Sasha will bring as examples.
