Let’s get together and nerd out over real data and a cozy beverage! We'll help real scientists by participating in various projects via Zooniverse-- choose your own science adventure.
If you've ever had a long-lost dream of becoming a scientist, this club is for you! Scientists in almost every field need input from people to process the huge amounts of data that their projects collect-- analyzing images, interpreting charts and graphs, and more. Through the online platform Zooniverse, anyone can sign up and contribute to scientific projects, from classifying trail camera photos of adorable animals to listening for unusual radio signals in the search for extraterrestrial life. Our club will assemble each month to work together and share updates on the projects we're taking part in, as well as learning about other hands-on ways to get involved. Join our group to track stats together here.
New to citizen science? Susannah will give participants an overview of Zooniverse and help orient folks with a project of their choosing. This program is suitable for people 10 and up, though tweens 10-12 will need an adult accompanying them to help out! Participants will need a laptop, phone, or tablet. The library has a number of laptops available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. Coffee and tea are provided.
