Anime Screening: Howl's Moving Castle (Laman Con)
Popcorn and make-and-take Howl's Emerald Earring kits are available at this cozy screening of Howl's Moving Castle!
Maybe it's a favorite, maybe you've never seen it, whichever case you're sure to love this Studio Ghibli classic.
Howl's Moving Castle, based off the Diana Wynne Jones book of the same name, is a stunning example of Miyazaki's directorial talent. An early example of "cozy fantasy" this film will carry you away with its whimsical cast and sweeping illustrations.
Sophie (Emily Mortimer) has an uneventful life at her late father's hat shop, but all that changes when she befriends wizard Howl (Christian Bale), who lives in a magical flying castle. However, the evil Witch of Waste (Lauren Bacall) takes issue with their budding relationship and casts a spell on young Sophie, which ages her prematurely. Now Howl must use all his magical talents to battle the jealous hag and return Sophie to her former youth and beauty.
The screening will begin at 10:00 AM, in Room 126 - located behind the study rooms on the 1st floor of Laman Library. Popcorn will be provided.
Near the back of the room we'll have a table set up with take-and-make kits to create your very own Howl's Emerald Earrings. You're welcome to work on this kit while the movie is showing, take them to the Studio for further work, or take them home to create in the comfort of your own space.
