"Waiting For It..." by Reginald Tyler Artist Statement: The realization of ideas in painting do not come from a conceptual “big idea” for me. The design starts with a visual realization of my thoughts. I understood the themes that are prominent in my head. I wait until I see something in my mind, a defining approach that gives the painting direction. I’ve learned patience in waiting for the idea of a painting to come to me. It starts simple. I see it like a series of objects that are in the distance. I don’t see details; I usually see the basic nature of a painting. I then begin to lay it out in a simple 3” x 4” image. Once the process starts, I let it flow. The rest of the elements fit around the primary elements. The secondary elements tell a further story. It seems random, but I’ve found if I deviate from the approach in my head, I can lose track of moving the painting to completion. The process will shut down, and I’m left there waiting on figuring out how to proceed. Artist Bio: I’ve explored this notion of what an artist is for many years. I’ve realized there is a succinct time of creation. This creation comes with a single criterion. I must wait for it to develop in my mind. The image will appear, and it will be like an alarm going off. If I start before I see this visual representation, I will often get stuck trying to move forward. It is a waiting game as much as an intellectual exercise. The elements I use are simple: abstraction from reality, 3-dimensional representation, symbolism, text, painted people of color, texture, form, and composition. Socials: Instagram @ripster001
