SMHEA’s Young Entrepreneur Fair


WELCOME to SMHEA’s 1st Annual Youth Entrepreneur Fair! (Guidelines & Rules below) There will be vendors, speaker sessions, activities, crafts, door prizes, and more! EVERYONE is welcome, not limited to homeschooled children or our members! This event is meant to foster the ethics, independence, and entrepreneurial skills of the youth participating. PARTICIPATION 1. Children must be 5 to 18 years old and able to run the table without their adults interacting with the customers AT ALL. Parents can assist their child when needed, but children must be able to: a. If selling a food item, they must prep, cook and serve the food. b. Take/fulfill orders, and answer questions. c. Take payment and make change. ***We welcome children with disabilities or special needs to participate with any necessary parental assistance! Please notify us at check-in. PARENTS CODE OF CONDUCT 1. We encourage parents from answering customer questions, taking orders, handling food or money. You can assist your child when needed, but CANNOT engage customers directly. 2. Parents CANNOT prepare, cook or serve food. 3. Parents CANNOT take payment. If you choose to use payment apps, teach your child how to use it beforehand. 4. Parents are required to remain on the venue premises throughout the duration of the market. 5. It’s your responsibility to make sure all adults in your party are aware of and agree to the rules. 6. Sit in the back of the table, enjoy the other venue offerings, read a book, and act like you’re not listening! Removing yourself (figuratively speaking) is what makes this an incredible learning experience for your child. PRODUCTS 1. Children can sell (almost) anything! It can be handmade, store-bought, food, games or services. a. No raw food allowed. b. No fundraisers allowed. c. Children may NOT sell goods on behalf of their parents. 2. Children must have an active role in the acquisition and/or production of their product. REGISTER 1. All children must register online at: smhea.org 2. All tables are $5 and can be paid on the smhea.org site, look for DONATIONS and pay there. 3. There are no waiting lists or standby tables even if there are cancellations. 4. NO REFUNDS (or credits) will be given for any reason. No exceptions. TABLES 1. It is one registration per table, regardless of how many children are selling in it. (You only sell out of one side of the table.) 2. Children may sell different products at the same table. 3. Children bring all their own supplies (Venue will supply table and 2 chairs (feel free to bring additional chairs if needed) 4. If children sell anything edible, they must bring a trash can for their customers. 5. Power is provided in certain areas of the venue. 6. No pets allowed. SELLING 1. This event’s main requirement is that the kids must run the table and be present the entire time. 2. Children must sell at their table (no walking the aisles). 3. There is no yelling to attract customers. 4. Please wear gloves if selling food. 5. Bartering is NOT allowed. 6. If you sell out, you CANNOT break down your table until the end. Put a “Sold Out” sign on your table and enjoy the rest of the event. 7. Parents may assist their children when needed, but are not allowed to engage customers directly. 8. Parents cannot sell for their children AT ALL. If the child leaves the table for any reason, they must put a “Be Back Soon” sign on the table. CLEAN UP 1. You are responsible for your own trash. Leave your table space clean like you found it. No lude or inappropriate products or behavior will be tolerated by anyone in attendance. Thank you for participating! May God bless your efforts!
