Set in 1990's Tulsa, Oklahoma - during the year of the 75th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre - the play is a dramatic comedy that explores the relationships between an Israeli immigrant, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan and their wives. Narrow minded Dr. Whitehill and his crone of a wife, Birdie, are set in their miserable ways until Dr. Whitehill encounters Yossi, an open-hearted musician who loves life. Uplifting, humorous and ultimately hopeful, "Shades of White" is a fast-paced seriocomedy that is relevant for our world today.
Shades of White, is a full-length dramatic comedy, first presented by Echo Theatre Company at the University of Tulsa in November 2017. In December 2017, the play was named a finalist in New York City's New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest. The Dan Allen Center for Social Justice sponsored a second production of Shades of White at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center as part of SummerStage Tulsa in June 2018. A film of this stage production, directed by Todd Roberts, aired on Amazon Prime for a year (2018-2019) and was an online event for Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2021. We are pleased to welcome back director Chuck Osuna, who last directed our comeback from Covid-19 show Plan 9 from Outer Space in October 2021.Chuck has assembled an excellent cast who are sure to bring Kozlowski's words to life on our stage. The cast includes: Chester Beebe, Lindsay Bills, Ibrahim Buyckes, Larry Golden Sr., Ruth Seefeldt and Kayla Williams.
