How Often Should I Get My Dog Groomed?
-
Grooming is an important function of dog care. Most dogs are not groomed as frequently as they need to be!
- For long haired breeds or mixes that mat easily every 3 - 4 weeks is recommended alongside regular brushing at home.
- Long haired breeds that require less upkeep and/or whose owners are active in some grooming care at home may only need to come in every 8 weeks for trimming, but baths in between will keep the coat and skin in good condition.
- Short haired dogs such as Labrador Retrievers may require a bath and nail trim every 3 months depending on their activities. Frequent nail trims in between will help keep the foot from splaying and prevent the dog scratching the caretaker.
- When in doubt, ask your groomer or your vet to recommend a grooming schedule
