Call to Artists for Holiday Project

ATLANTIC BEACH, FL - The Beaches Town Center Agency (BTCA) is excited to announce its inaugural Christmas Surfboards Artist Contest, bringing a unique holiday twist to the coastal community. This "Christmas in July" initiative invites local artists to showcase their talent and creativity on surfboard canvases that will adorn the town during the festive season. Key Details: - 12 new surfboards will feature designs by local artists - Surfboards are polyurethane and approximately 8 feet long by 2 feet wide - Holiday-themed artwork required - Artists must reside or showcase work in Greater Jacksonville - Designs to be painted on the front of the board with a solid color back - BTC will provide a protective coating to ensure longevity of the artwork The contest aims to enhance the Town Center's existing collection of 25 holiday surfboards, adding fresh, vibrant designs to the beloved tradition. "We're thrilled to launch this contest, combining our beach culture with holiday cheer," said Kendra Robertson, President of the Beaches Town Center Agency. "It's a fantastic opportunity for local artists to gain exposure and contribute to our community's festive spirit." Glenn Shuck, BTCA Board Member, added, "Jacksonville Beach is known for 'Deck the Chairs,' where holiday lights transform lifeguard chairs. In Beaches Town Center, we have created a holiday lighting experience as well. This contest will showcase several of the fantastic artists that we have locally and enhance our unique identity in the area's Holiday celebrations". Contest Timeline: - July 15, 2024: Contest announcement and opening of submissions - September 1, 2024: Deadline for artist bids and design concepts - September 10, 2024: Winner selection by BTCA Board - October 1, 2024: Winner announcement and boards available for pickup - November 15, 2024: Surfboard artwork delivery and installation Selected artists will receive $300 compensation for their work and materials, along with promotional opportunities including a featured profile on the BTCA website.
