The Orange Park Chorale, a non-profit community of choral voices, invites the public to lace up its musical shoes and prepare for a melodious journey as the group presents its free spring vocal concert, “Walk With Me,” in two performances. On Saturday, March 16, at 4:00pm, The Orange Park Chorale will perform at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 2001 University Boulevard West., Jacksonville. The second concert is scheduled for Sunday, March 17 at 4:00pm at the Orange Park Presbyterian Church, 1905 Park Avenue, Orange Park. The Chorale will also feature an ensemble of students from Orange Park High School which will perform two selections under the school’s Choral Director Allison Arthurs, and will accompany the Chorale in its last song of the evening. Concert attendance is free. Donations will be accepted. Under the direction of Artistic Director David Holladay, “Walk With Me” will guide the audience step by step through a path of soulful melodies, uplifting harmonies and top-tapping rhythms. Selections include sacred music featuring Dominus Vobiscum, a Gregorian chant composed by Jacob Narverud; You Do Not Walk Alone composed by the incomparable Elaine Hagenberg in response to a commission by Jacksonville’s River City Choruses and founding director R. Wayne Bailey; Walking ‘Cross the Sea by Pepper Choplin, which brings a soulful jazz element to the mix, plus several pieces with unique choral arrangements inspired by familiar hymns. Secular selections continue the performance’s “walking” theme with Walk in My Shoes by Andre J. Thomas and Niel Lorenz; I’ll Walk by Your Side which was written by JoJo David and arranged by Jeanne Cotter to offer hope after the Columbine school shooting; and Walk a Mile by Pepper Choplin which encourages us to walk in our neighbor’s shoes. The Orange Park Chorale, founded in 1992, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The group’s mission is, “To provide opportunities for community participation in the area of choral music. The Chorale’s goal is to provide excellence in the choral arts and to enhance the cultural life of communities in Northeast Florida.” Throughout its history, the members of The Orange Park Chorale have been committed to maintaining the group’s core values of: Musical Excellence, Fellowship, Mutual Respect, Character, and Dedication.
