St. Peter Claver & St. Michael’s Parishes: A Storied Legacy

Did you know Fernandina was once home to two Catholic parishes? The intertwined stories of St. Michael and St. Peter Claver parishes have been shaped by many cultural and racial traditions. To honor former St Peter Claver African American and past and present St. Michael parishioners, author CAPT John Pulsinelli, USN (ret), is updating and expanding the book originally written for St. Michael’s 150th anniversary. In this special talk, he will share newly written chapters and fresh historical insights that illuminate the growth of Catholicism on Amelia Island and throughout Northeast Florida. • Date: Friday, October 17 • Time: 6 PM (doors open at 5:30 PM) • Temporary Location: While the Maple Leaf exhibit is in the Lecture Hall through Dec. 7, our programs will be at the Nassau County Public Library – Fernandina Beach Branch, 25 N. 4th Street • Cost: Free for museum members; suggested donation of $5 for nonmembers Seating is first-come, first-served. We recommend arriving early to secure downtown parking and a seat. This program is fully wheelchair accessible.
