George Fairbanks, His Life and Times – Brown Bag Lunch, Sept 3 | Amelia Island Museum of History

Step into history this September as the Amelia Island Museum of History welcomes photographer, writer, and storyteller Phil Eschbach, a ninth-generation Floridian from Winter Park, to present the fascinating story of George R. Fairbanks. George Fairbanks was far more than a name on one of Fernandina’s grandest historic homes. He was a lawyer, politician, historian, and author whose vision helped shape not only Amelia Island but also the wider story of Florida. A founder of the Florida Historical Society, he worked tirelessly to record and preserve the stories of the state during a time of rapid change. This Brown Bag Lunch program offers attendees a unique opportunity to hear about the personal journey of George Fairbanks. Through photographs, stories, and insights, Phil Eschbach will highlight how Fairbanks’ leadership, writings, and vision left a legacy that continues to shape Florida today. The Amelia Island Museum of History’s Brown Bag Lunch series is one of our longest-running and most beloved programs. Guests are invited to bring their own lunch, relax in the museum’s lecture hall, and enjoy a lively and informative talk. Admission is free, and no reservations are required.
