The definÂiÂtive account of the 10/7 masÂsacre through the stoÂries of its vicÂtims and the comÂmuÂniÂties they called home.
A masÂterÂful work of invesÂtigaÂtive jourÂnalÂism by acclaimed Haaretz reporter Lee Yaron, 10/7 chronÂiÂcles the masÂsacre that ignitÂed a war through the stoÂries of more than 100 civilÂians. These stoÂries are the prodÂucts of extenÂsive interÂviews with surÂvivors, the bereaved, and first responÂders in Israel and beyond. The vicÂtims run the gamut from left-wing kibÂbutzniks and BurnÂing Man-esque partiers to radÂiÂcal right-wingers, from Bedouins and Israeli Arabs to Thai and Nepalese guest workÂers, peace activists, elderÂly HoloÂcaust surÂvivors, refugees from Ukraine and RusÂsia, pregÂnant women, and babies.
Lee Yaron has been a jourÂnalÂist with Haaretz, Israel’s oldÂest and most award-winÂning newsÂpaÂper, for nearÂly a decade. Her invesÂtigaÂtive reportÂing has resultÂed in the foundÂing of state-levÂel comÂmisÂsions and the changÂing of subÂstanÂtial bodÂies of Israeli polÂiÂcy and law. She is an electÂed memÂber-repÂreÂsenÂtaÂtive of the ExecÂuÂtive ComÂmitÂtee of the Union of Israeli JourÂnalÂists. She has also writÂten and directÂed acclaimed theÂater proÂducÂtions notable for their use of found mateÂriÂals, includÂing offiÂcial govÂernÂmenÂtal texts, to bring attenÂtion to marÂginÂalÂized comÂmuÂniÂties both in Israel and throughÂout the MidÂdle East. Born in Tel Aviv, Yaron splits her time between her native city and New York.
Yaron will be interviewed by Jamie Ratner Rich.
