Join us for an evening of science and cinema! We will start off with a conversation with Dr. Terri Carney, Butler Professor of Spanish and Director of the Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies program. Dr. Carney will address how gender informs the linguistic, anthropological, and scientific foundations of the film.
Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Arrive early to purchase concessions and drinks at the Heartland Film Bar. The conversation will start at 7:00 PM, and the film will begin promptly after the talk.
Meet the Speaker: Dr. Terri Carney
Dr. Terri Carney is Professor of Spanish at Butler University since 1995 where she served as Chair of the Modern Languages, Literatures, & Cultures Department 2010-2016. She is now the Director of the Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies program and President of the Butler Chapter for American Association of University Professors. She is the author of articles and essays on contemporary Spanish fiction and film, classical Hispanic theater, popular culture, service learning, and feminist activism in the academy.
