Exhibit Grand Opening: Presidential Ink

Join us on March 19 to be among the first to see the latest exhibit at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site! Presidential Ink: 45 Signatures that Shaped a Nation brings together artifacts from the Holcomb Collection, the Huston Collection, and the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site to explore the enduring power and public fascination of the president’s pen. As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this exhibit invites visitors to reflect on how the written word has shaped the nation’s laws, leadership, and democratic traditions. The stories of all 45 presidents – and their 47 administrations – are revealed through laws signed or rejected, official and personal correspondence, commissions, autographs, and treaties. Their handwriting offers rare insight into the men behind the office: some signatures display a calligrapher’s flourish, while others appear hurried and workaday, more like a doctor’s scrawl. Yet whether thin and spidery or bold and brash, each carries equal legal weight—and lasting influence on the past, present, and future of the United States. Guests are invited to experience Presidential Ink during an open-house style opening reception from 5:30–7:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served in the Welcome Center, and visitors may explore the exhibit gallery on the third floor of the home at their own pace while chatting with members of the exhibit team about the artifacts, research, and stories behind these signatures.
