The 5th Annual Hope Rising community mental health conference will take place Friday, March 3rd at The Woodlands First Baptist Church. This event is a collaboration between the Spiritual Care Network, National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Houston (NAMI) and the Behavioral Health and Suicide Prevention Taskforce of Montgomery County (BHSP). The annual event is open to the community, mental health professionals and faith leaders.
Conference co-chairs are Pat Calelly from The Woodlands First Baptist Church and Eric Ayles from Starlite Recovery Center. Eric is also the Board President of the Spiritual Care Network, a national nonprofit with a mission to bridge the gap between mental health and faith.
“This event is an opportunity for both professionals and community members to come together, build relationships and create powerful partnerships that will help those in need of mental health and addiction resources,” Said Eric Ayles.
The Hope Rising Conference is an invaluable platform for connecting individuals in the community with services, information and support so they can receive much-needed assistance while also forming meaningful connections. Dr. Brenda LaVar, president of NAMI of Greater Houston will be coordinating “Action Group Breakouts” to facilitate important discussions. These include; Housing, Peer Support, Education and Awareness, and Collaboration between Law Enforcement and Treatment Resources.
The keynote speaker will be psychiatrist Dr. Paul Looney with his presentation titled; The Role of Shame and Disconnection in Initiating and Perpetuating Mental Illness and Addiction. In addition, lunch and refreshments will be served by Teague’s Barbecue, making the conference a comfortable one-stop destination for all attendees to learn and network.
“Attendees will benefit from continuing education credit provided by industry experts as well as have the chance to visit 30 resource tables from various local organizations and treatment programs, “said Brooke Martin from Acadia the continuing education coordinator for the event.
The headline sponsor is Kingwood Pines Hospital with other key sponsors including Starlite Recovery Center, Acadia Treatment Placement Specialists, LifeSpring Behavioral Health, Hope Restored Treatment Center and Wellpath Recovery Solutions.
