Shahzia Sikander University of Houston Opening Celebration & Artist Talk
Marking Sikander’s first major, site-specific outdoor exhibition in sculptural form, the installation co-commissioned by Public Art UHS and Madison Square Park Conservancy challenges traditional symbols of power, justice, and female representation in public monuments. During the artist talk, Shahzia Sikander will share insights into her artistic process, inspirations, and the stories behind her captivating work. This session will give you a chance to hear from the artist directly and gain a deeper understanding of her artistic vision.
Following its 2023 debut in Madison Square Park in New York City, Havah…to breathe, air, life officially opens at University of Houston with a public opening celebration and artist talk on February 28th and will remain on view at Cullen Family Plaza through October 2024. Whether you are an art enthusiast, student, or simply curious about contemporary art, this event is free and open to everyone! Join us in celebrating this extraordinary artist and her return to Houston, where her artistic journey began in the mid-1990s.
