Kick off your night in Waikīkī with the return of Makalauna, an annual festival honoring the legendary slack-key guitarist Gabby Pahinui, affectionately known as “Pops.” Taking place on the Plaza Stage at Waikīkī Beach Walk and emceed by none other than Kimo Kahoano, the celebration will begin at 4:30pm with a ceremonial tribute led by Blaine Kia, featuring Hālau Ka Waikahe Lani Mālie, Hālau Kahulaliwai and a lei draping at Gabby Pahinui's statue.
After the opening ceremony, enjoy performances by esteemed Hawaiʻi artists like Kawika Kahiapo & Kaukahi, George Kuo Band, and Greg Sardinha & Friends from 5 pm - 8pm, followed by a "Jam Session.”
Makalauna is a chance to experience the aloha spirit and Hawaiʻi's rich, cultural heritage through mesmerizing performances and heartfelt tributes. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to Hawaiian music, Makalauna promises an unforgettable evening that pays homage to one of Hawaii’s most beloved musicians.
