TAU DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS: “INDIGENUITY”

(Honolulu, Hawaii) Tau Dance Theater proudly presents the world premiere of its newest production, “INDIGENUITY”, an artistic celebration of gifts from all of our ancestors, native pride, and cultural and spiritual awakening to transform the arts through the respectful evolution of indigenous dance, music and theater.
Tau Dance Theatre Artistic Director, Peter Rockford Espiritu expressed, “INDIGENUITY is created with a vision to unite us as one artistic tribe, celebrating our cultures. What we create and share today, makes for a better tomorrow.”
Artistic Director, Peter Rockford Espiritu weaves together a sumptuous tapestry honoring native to native culture and arts through dance, song and story.
INDIGENUITY features Espiritu’s stunning choreography fused masterfully with the stellar talents of guest artists:

Pōmaika'i continues the legacy set forth by her late grandmother, Genoa Keawe.

INDIGENUITY will be presented at the newly renovated Leeward Theatre at Leeward Community College, 96-045 Ala ‘Ike St., Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii.

About Tau Dance Theatre: Tau Dance Theater is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable arts organization dedicated to serving our global village by contributing to the enrichment of our cultural landscape while building community through dance and the creative arts.
Tau Dance Theater is the only professional dance company based in Honolulu founded and directed by a Native Hawaiian in 1996. The company made history in 2022 by being invited by Lincoln Center to perform in New York City at their Festival of Firsts. Tau is a 2024 recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts GAP and the State Foundation for Culture and the Arts Biennial grants. Artistic Director, Peter Rockford Espiritu is Dance USA Fellow anda Western Arts Alliance - Advancing Indigenous Performances - Native Launchpad Fellow. Tau was selected to be one of three Fellows representing the First Nations and Indigenous delegation from the US at the 75th International Society of Performing Art Congress in Perth, Australia in 2024.
