Rainbow Bonsai Club Bonsai Show and Fair, Sat. Dec. 9, 9 a.m. - 1:30p.m.
Beautiful bonsai trees will be on display and a variety of vendors on hand at the Rainbow Bonsai Club Bonsai Show and Fair. In addition, bonsai will be created at a series of demonstrations.
The bonsai show features large, medium-sized and shohin bonsai which are small enough to fit in the palm of a hand. The bonsai trees are from club members’ collections and represent years of design, training, and horticultural skill needed to create bonsai, the Japanese art of growing miniature trees in pots. Much of the Koko Head Elementary School Cafeteria will be allotted to vendors of bonsai, plants, and other items.
Drawing on their experience and knowledge of bonsai design and techniques, club member Richard Wagner and featured guest artist Chris Ra will create bonsai at a series of demonstrations. Richard Wagner has studied bonsai with many notable teachers in California and Hawaii and has performed numerous demonstrations and workshops for over 30 years. He has focused on using Hawaii’s trees, native and introduced, and recently published the book, Bonsai Hawaiian Style: An Illustrated Guide. Guest artist, Chris Ra, a Hawaii Bonsai Association member, will demonstrate years of expertise by creating a bonsai that is certain to fascinate and surprise us all.
The annual Rainbow Bonsai Club Show and Fair is scheduled for Sat., December 9, 2023, at Koko Head Elementary School, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free and ample parking is available. This is an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Japanese art of bonsai. Club members will be on hand to share their knowledge of bonsai, gardening, and plants.
