Nuʻuanu Streaming Public Art Project & Viewing Party

Native Hawaiian artist Nanea Lum presents Nuʻuanu Streaming, a public art project that will consist of a large-scale video projected onto the blacktop of one full block of Nuʻuanu Avenue, from King Street to Hotel Street, in Urban Honolulu. The video will depict the flowing water of Nuʻuanu stream, and the ritual of burying canvases under rocks in the streambed. The project speaks directly to the issue of water diversion in Hawaiʻi’s post-contact society and asks the people of Honolulu to consider the deep history of sharing water in pre-contact Hawaiʻi. The viewing party at Downtown Art Center, in the vacant Studio C pop-up space, will offer the opportunity to experience the public art project up close, right outside our two double doors that open up onto Nuʻuanu Avenue. During the viewing party, visitors will have the opportunity to view "Nuʻuanu Stream: From the Mountains to the Sea," an exhibition of beautiful artwork by local artists inspired by Nuʻuanu's natural and urban beauty. Refreshments from the DAC Donation Bar will be available, with a live music accompaniment by violinist Markus Mars. FREE and open to the public.
