BATTLESHIP MISSOURI MEMORIAL TO COMMEMORATE THE END OF WORLD WAR II ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2


WHO: Keynote Speaker: Rear Admiral Erik Eslich Director, Maritime Operations, U.S. Pacific Fleet Distinguished Guest Speakers: Major Michael J. Englund, U.S. Army (Ret.) Senior Army Instructor, Jr. Reserve Officer Training Corps, Waipahu High School Mr. John Figuerres Deputy Director for Operations, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Opening Address: William A. Kearns III Board of Directors, USS Missouri Memorial Association COST: Free and open to the public. ATTIRE: Summer Whites, Service Equivalent or Aloha Attire. BASE ACCESS: Complimentary round-trip shuttle service from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center beginning at 8:00 a.m. Parking at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center is $7 per vehicle. Please note, bags are not allowed on the shuttle. The celebration honors the courage of the soldiers who stormed the beaches and the paratroopers who descended into enemy territory. The legacy of the Normandy Landings continues to inspire future generations, symbolized by the USS Missouri, which played a key role in the Pacific Theater and witnessed Japan's surrender. This event serves as a reminder of the extraordinary courage and resilience demonstrated during World War II and reaffirms our commitment to the values for which these heroes fought. For the 79th commemoration ceremony, Rear Admiral Erik Eslich, Director of Maritime Operations for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, will serve as the keynote speaker. Mr. John Figuerres, Deputy Director for Operations at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, and Retired U.S. Army Major Michael J. Englund will join the ceremony as distinguished guest speakers. They will offer their reflections on this significant occasion, highlighting the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the Allied forces involved in the historic D-Day invasion. Visitors can explore the new exhibit, "Life After Infamy: The Resilience of the Aloha Spirit in Wartime Hawai‘i," and enjoy guided tours of the Battleship Missouri featuring historic displays and artifacts that illuminate the story of World War II, the crucial role of the USS Missouri, and its significance in the Pacific Theater.
