Join us to hear from poet and author Naomi Shihab Nye at Iolani School's Community Event. Naomi Shihab Nye describes herself as a “wandering poet.” Born to a Palestinian father and an American mother, for more than forty years, she has shared her art throughout the world, testifying to our shared humanity. Ms. Nye has published widely, and her books of poetry for adults and children include 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East, which was a finalist for the National Book Award, A Maze Me: Poems for Girls, Red Suitcase, Words Under the Words, Fuel, Transfer, You & Yours, and her new book, The Turtle of Michigan, a sequel to her award-winning book The Turtle of Oman. In 2020, she was awarded the Ivan Sandrof Award for Lifetime Achievement by the National Book Critics Circle. In 2021, she was voted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
