Are you ready to change the game and your future?
Journey into the past by stepping onto the Papamū. Learn the rules and philosophical perspectives of Kōnane from Uncle John himself, who’s been studying Kōnane for 30 years. He will speak on the history, basic rules and strategy, as well as tips and tricks for bringing the game back into everyday life. After the workshop, a short Tournament bracket will take place with prizes!
This event is also the release of Uncle John’s first book, The Black Book of Kōnane, covering Kōnane as a tool for kilo and reflection of life on the papamū. Part memoir, Uncle John will be sharing anecdotal stories about his relationships with the game. The Black Book of Kōnane explores community-building and leadership rooted in the interconnectedness of land.
As part of Ka Waiwai’s Lā Kūʻokoʻa Month celebrating Hawaiian Independence, we dedicate our play to Kauikeaouli. In the spirit of our kūpuna, we hope the evening rekindles a connection to tradition.
