The Musical Club of Hartford Presents: A Morning Concert of Classical and World Music
The Musical Club of Hartford presents an exciting mix of classical and world music performed by Musical Club members and guests. Admission is free to club members and students, $5 for the general public. Performances will include:
• Piano Sonata in F-sharp minor, op. 25, no. 5 by Muzio Clementi (Carter Johnson, piano)
• Art songs by Georges Bizet, Franz Liszt, and Ernest Charles and a spiritual arranged by Henry Thacker (“Harry”) Burleigh (Susan Mardinly, mezzo-soprano; Michelle Duffy, piano)
• Unique arrangements for solo piano of Gabriel Fauré’s “Clair de lune;” the Adagio from Heinrich Joseph Bauermann’s 3rd clarinet quintet; and “Tea for Two” by Vincent Youmans and Irving Caesar (Dorothy Bognar, piano and arranger)
• Two “Choros” by Brazilian composer Alfredo da Rocha Viana Filho, a.k.a Pixinguinha
(Mark Silk, flute; Arthur Maciel, guitar; Isaac Silk, trombone; Eric Galm, pandeiro)
• “Silk Apples” by Connecticut-based composer Rami Levin (Mark Silk, flute; Arthur Maciel, guitar)
• Six Canciones Sfarditas, arranged by Catalan composer Manuel Valls (Tema Silk, soprano; Mark Silk, flute, and Arthur Maciel, guitar)
The concert will take place in the church's spacious, light-filled sanctuary with wonderful acoustics. Ample free off-street parking and handicap accessible entry are available. Masks are optional but recommended.
