Learn about Afro-Cuban Jazz from some of the best: Javon Jackson, Professor of Jazz and Director of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, Hartt Professor Matt DeChamplain, and Grammy-award-winning pianist Zaccai Curtis. Join them as they tell it, show it, and play it like it is. Afro-Cuban jazz blends Afro-Cuban clave (hardwood stick)-based rhythms with jazz harmonies and techniques of improvisation. It originated in Cuba and Brazil and made its way stateside. Wednesdays, Oct. 8, 15, & 29, 3:20-4:50 p.m. Sponsored by President’s College Lifelong Learning at the University of Hartford. Visit Hartford.edu/pc to check this out as well as lots of other fall courses & lectures. Email [email protected] or call 860.768.4495 with questions or to be added to the mailing list.
