Discover the dramatic, million-year-old stories hidden beneath your feet! We Nutmeggers pride ourselves on our rock-solid foundation—but did you know our state has a history of clashing continents, splitting landmasses, and massive volcanic eruptions that blanketed the region in lava? Every rock contains a story, and this engaging, two-part course will teach you the visual language to read them.
• Session One: Classroom Join instructor Howard Wright for a hands-on introduction to our local geology. Using physical rock samples, you will learn the visual language needed to identify metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous rocks, including shale, sandstone, schist, and basalt.
• Session Two: Field Trip Take your new skills outdoors! Venture into the wilds of the Farmington Valley to see these geological wonders in situ, learning about Connecticut’s seven layers at various mini-bus stops.
Package includes:
Classroom Session: Thursday, April 30 | 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. UHart campus
Field Trip: Thursday, May 7 | Choose between two time slots: * 10:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
