Sicilian Heritage in Middletown Documentary Premiere
After five years in the making, the Sicilian Heritage in Middletown documentary is finally complete. Created by Middlesex professors Angelo Glaviano and Dan Nocera, the hour-long film features interviews with local Sicilian community members, sharing stories of sacrifice, perseverance and achievement. It highlights how early immigrants overcame language barriers, racism and religious discrimination to build successful lives and lasting legacies in New England. A 15-minute preview of the documentary took place last spring. Guest include Middletown Mayor Gene Nocera; former Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliani; Bill Corvo, movie producer and son of Max Corvo, the U.S. OSS officer who drew the plans of the U.S. landing in Sicily, during WW II; Nancy Vitale, sister of Middletown band director Sam Vinci; former CT State Middlesex president Wilfredo Nieves.
