This class will cover basic color theory and how to work with the medium of soft pastels. All you need is a sheet of rough paper, a set of pastel sticks and a willingness to explore the world of color in the subject of your choice.
Artist grade pastels are pure pigments with some small degree of an added binder; different brands use different binders. Student grade pastels have more binder and less pigment. The more pigment the softer the pastel. Brilliant greens, blues, yellows and reds blend into a wide range of beautiful colors. Pastels are a reasonably priced art material and are sold in sets geared for landscape or portraiture. These sets are convenient for beginners as well as experienced pastel artists.
