It will offer individualized instruction on how to draw realistic portraits in the traditional medium of compressed charcoal. We will be discussing techniques for using charcoal successfully to create a rich contrast of dark and light values for expressive, realistic portraits. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or new to the medium of charcoal drawing, you will learn how to use charcoal effectively and how to compose a portrait while avoiding common mistakes. The charm of charcoal drawing lies both in its simplicity and its forgiving nature. The beauty of charcoal drawing is why it has remained a popular medium for drawing since the Renaissance.
