Working, the Musical It’s show time! In this brand-new performing arts program, tweens and teens 12 and up will experience the sheer magic of theater. Acting, singing, dancing, playing music, and stagecraft are all a part of this authentic theatrical experience. With the direction of their two teaching artists, participants will stage a production of Working, the musical, at AMP and perform on July 18 and 19. Along the way, they will gain critical communication skills, grow their self-confidence, work as a team, and develop a passion for all that goes into a performance. Participants will: - Experience the entire theatrical process—from script read-through to final bow. - Perform as part of a cast of supportive peers. - Try on roles and experiment with acting techniques. - Create costumes, props, and sets. - Develop theatrical skills, including vocal projection. - Learn the steps of character development that bring characters to life. - Explore the art of improvisation. - Work together on musical numbers, including choreography and vocals. - Execute dance combinations and perfect their timing. - Become stronger communicators, grow their self-confidence, and. - Let their inner star shine! About the Musical Working portrays diverse characters (including a steelworker, a teacher, a millworker, a waitress, a mason, and a corporate executive) who present their experiences in the workforce through dramatic scenes and musical numbers in various American music styles. The play is based on Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do (1974) by Studs Terkel. The musical is written by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with music by Stephen Schwartz, James Taylor, Craig Carnelia, and Lin Manuel Miranda. No experience is necessary. The teaching artists will work with each participant at their own level. All who register and audition will be cast. Auditions will be held at AMP on Saturday, June 29. (A video audition may be submitted if the date is difficult.) Participation in both weeks and performances is required, as well as a commitment to learning lines, songs, and dances.
