Hebron History Walking Tour

Enjoy a walk through 600 million years of Hebron’s unique and compelling history. On Sunday, October 27th at 2:00pm a History Walking Tour will offer an immersive experience in one of the most significant historic landscapes in Hebron. The walk will meet at the Raymond Brook Preserve, 52 Kinney Road, and cover about 1 mile. Beginning with the Iapetus Ocean, the formation of Pangea and the creation of our unique Hebron Gneiss Bedrock, to the influences of the Ice Ages, explore the ancient geological forces that shaped our town. View the landscape as seen by Hebron’s the first inhabitants, the Paleo-Indians, who came into the area about 12,000 years ago, and walk in the footsteps of the Sachem Attawanhood, son of the Mohegan Sachem Uncas, who willed the land to Hebron’s first colonial settlers in 1674. Walk the boundaries of The Barber Lot, purchased by the proprietor David Barber in 1704, and experience the unique stonewall laneways enhanced by Governor John S. Peters and built by the hands of Hebron’s free Black farmers between 1790 and 1825. Boots or good walking shoes are recommended. Light rain is ok, heavy rain will cancel.
