Canal Day
Celebrate small town goodness at Canal Day, a street fair in the center square of Newport on October 4, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. sponsored by the Newport Revitalization and Preservation Society. This annual celebration brings the community together for a day of food, arts, crafts and music. A pep rally with Newport High School athletic teams, cheerleaders and band starts the day at 9:00 a.m. Popular local band Darkside on Tap performs classic and modern rock and roll at 10 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The Perry-Juniata Jazz Band plays the classics at 12:35 p.m. The recently completed “Newport” mural will be dedicated at 11 am and the Newport Lions Club will dedicate a bench in honor of Jeff Mattern at 12:35 p.m. The day also features Newport Fire Company bucket rides, free children’s activities including a bounce house and petting zoo, and free drawings for gift cards. A balloon artist will provide twisted treats for kids. Over 60 local churches and nonprofits offer delicious food and local businesses and artisans offer their wares.
