The **Lanterns of Light** event is a cherished community tradition returning for its eighth year to support the mission of Pappus House. Taking place on **Sunday, October 11, 2026, beginning at 5:00 PM**, this evening offers a dedicated space for community members to connect, create, and celebrate the lives of beloved family members, friends, and pets who have gone before us.
This year, participants are encouraged to design and decorate their own unique lanterns. Crafting a personalized lantern gives families and friends a hands-on way to honor their loved ones, turning feelings of grief into a visible, lasting symbol of love. As night falls, these lanterns serve as beautiful beacons of memory, illuminating the past’s cherished moments and providing a peaceful focal point for reflection.
Event Schedule
The evening is structured to allow for creativity, connection, and quiet reflection:
5:00 PM – 5:45 PM | Lantern Decoration: Gather with fellow community members to design and personalize your remembrance lantern.
5:45 PM – 6:15 PM | Path of Remembrance Stroll & Quiet Reflection: Take a peaceful walk to honor your loved one in the way that feels most meaningful to you—whether through silent reflection, conversations with others, or simply taking in the surrounding sights and sounds.
6:15 PM – 6:45 PM | Program and Launch Ceremony: Join together for a collective community program to share in the joy of remembrance.
* **Sunset | Lantern Launch:** Witness the beautiful, illuminated launch of the lanterns as day turns to night.

Pappus House Families: A special **Welcome Tent** will be open specifically for the families and friends of Pappus House residents who have passed away since the 2025 event. Visitors can spend time with Pappus House staff and volunteers, and view the personalized lanterns beautifully crafted by Pappus House for each of those residents.
Important Details & Location
Primary Location: Cousler Park (1060 Church Rd., York, PA). Attendees will be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the park and the warmth of the community.
Inclement Weather Plan: In the event of poor weather, the event will be moved indoors to Zion UMC (2030 Carlisle Ave., York, PA 17404).
What to Bring: Please plan to bring a camp chair or a blanket so you can comfortably watch the evening program and sunset launch.
