A Conversation on Plastic Bags and Bottles

Join us for A Conversation on Plastic Bags and Bottles WHEN: Monday, June 17th, 2024, 6 pm - 7 pm EST WHERE: Bosler Memorial Library, 158 W High St, Carlisle, PA or ZOOM Register HERE www.bit.ly/Bottles_Bags What’s Up with Bags and Bottles? Kathy Cook, former League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania environmental policy director, will share the work done in Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester Counties with single-use plastic bag bans. She will discuss successes and pitfalls and discuss how others can benefit from our work and how we can help set up single-use plastic bag ban committees in other counties. Maureen McCarthy—FoCo Trash Mob—will share the number of Deposit Return Systems, DRS, or bottle bills, what they do, and how they help an EPR bill be successful. Also, she will go over a SUP water bottle ban, what that is, where it should be implemented, and how CO is doing it. I will share a Resource document with attendees. Guest Speakers Kathy Cook, was the former League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania environmental policy director. I now work on plastic pollution through the League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County and as the plastics campaign lead for Food and Water Watch for Pennsylvania. I am also the chair of the Chester County Plastic Pollution Task Force and a member of Move Past Plastics and Beyond Plastics. Maureen McCarthy - FoCo Trash Mob - Panera Campaign. Maureen McCarthy worked at the County’s Landfill and then at her City’s Recycling Center for over 12 years as a recycling specialist/volunteer coordinator. During that time, she noticed an upward spike in single-use plastics, and a lot of confusion followed about which plastics were recyclable, where they would get recycled, and what they were recycling. The messaging became increasingly impossible when the umpteenth person waved another clamshell in her face, yelling, “What do you mean this isn’t recyclable? It says so right here!” Register HERE www.bit.ly/Bottles_Bags If you attend in-person you are welcome to continue the conversation walk a block with us to Pitt St. Station, 10 N Pitt St. Carlisle, 17013 A casual restaurant and bar in Carlisle's historic downtown featuring classic comfort fare, an extensive craft beer list, specialty cocktails, and a wide-ranging selection of wine. Come join us for a relaxed lunch or an evening out. For more information go to www.movepastplastic.com website or Move Past Plastic FB group or page. With appreciation,
