The Buzz Jones Big Band is dedicated
to performing masterpieces of the Great
American Songbook and swing standards
of Basie and Ellington. The BJBB has over
400 performances to its credit that include
jazz festivals, conventions, ballroom
dances, summer park concert series as
well as appearances with Tony Bennett,
John Pizzarelli, The Temptations, and Bob
Newhart. The BJBB toured Europe three
times with performances at the Montreux
and North Sea Jazz Festivals and concerts
in Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland,
and The Netherlands.
Darden Purcell is an in-demand jazz
vocalist with symphony orchestras,
big bands, and combos throughout the
Washington, D.C. metro area and beyond..
Dr. Purcell has shared the stage with many
top jazz artists including Maria Schneider,
Eric Alexander, Terell Stafford, Eddie Daniels,
Jim Pugh, Chip McNeill, Chuchito Valdes,
Alan Baylock, Byron Stripling, Darmon
Meader, Lisanne Lyons, Jim Carroll, Chris
Vadala, Shawn Purcell, the Metropolitan
Jazz Orchestra, US Navy Commodores, The
Airmen of Note, US Army Blues, and the
American Festival Pops Orchestra. Darden
is the Director of Jazz Studies, Jazz Voice
instructor & Director of the Downbeat
award-winning Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble
at George Mason University.
